Fundraising for sudden move to NYC?

My husband was accepted for Teach for America program in NYC. He will be teaching special education children in highly needed scholls in NYC. We live in south NJ with 2 toddlers. We have to find a apartment and move to NYC by Sept. We only have a month to find housing because he still doesn't know where he will be placed to teach. We dont have much money and its a big move on what will be a teacher's salary. Any ideas on how i can fundraise (as a stay at home mom) for some extra money? Is it inappropriate for adults to fundraise because they need money? Already planning on a yard sale but we dont have much to sell (just starting out).
